My name is Elaine.

I am a first-generation Chinese-Canadian settler on the unceded and stolen territory of the Halkomelem speaking peoples.

I am an elementary school teacher-librarian. Every day, classes full of eager kids teach me about our collective capacity for good, and I cannot imagine a more gratifying way to spend my days.

I have two superpowers: I can pick up almost anything using only my feet, and I can correctly predict the culprit in almost any detective TV show. Poutine is my all-time favourite food. Ankylosaurus is my all-time favourite dinosaur. I am a novice at karate, smoothies, and keeping plants alive. I am an expert in speed games, inspirational sports movies, and anything related to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. My library is never quiet at all.

When I am not watching inspirational sports movies, I can be found in the library holding a book and saying loudly, "This is one of my favourites!" Spoiler alert: they are all my favourites.

In 2020 my family made the news when our entire city decorated their front doors for Lunar New Year to help my kids celebrate their heritage. That is definitely one of my favourite stories.
