Book an author visit with me!
I love visiting schools and readers when I am not teaching my own students! As a qualified teacher-librarian at an elementary school, I like to think I know how to tell a compelling story (my 5-year-old students seem to agree, at least!) and keep young learners engaged.
I have experience giving workshops to and teaching K-7 students. I am available for virtual visits anywhere or in-person visits around the Lower Mainland, BC.
All workshops will include:
Read-aloud of my picture book (from someone who reads aloud for a living!)

Q&A
A workshop typically lasts about 40-60 minutes, depending on the group size and content. I am happy to work with schools to find a fit that is just right for them, but here are some workshops that go well with my books and journey:
-
All ages. Especially great fit for preschool to Grade 2 audiences but an excellent and fun way to engage readers of all ages. Everyone is encouraged to bring in a very special stuffy (like Panda!) and we learn how to draw them and tell their stories. A great way to use our imagination and think about what our toys get up to and think about the things we do.
-
All ages. A great way to think about authorial voice and and choice. In this workshop, we will explore different ways to develop fulsome characters and give them unique voices. We will practice by telling stories in words and pictures and actions and learn how little choices can have big impacts in books.
-
Gr. 4-7. Because Love, Panda is written in the form of letters, it provides an excellent learning opportunity for kids who are able to write more independently. In this workshop, we explore the epistolary format and write letters to and from our toys.
-
Gr. 6-8. My first book, A Stronger Home, is an allegory that uses the idea of a storm as a metaphor for abuse and violence. For older kids, this is a great workshop to explore symbolism and allegory and to think about other ways to tell stories about hard topics. These ideas are handled with care and intention at a very age-appropriate level from an epxerienced educator.
